The story of the IPv4 protocol goes back to 1967, when the U.S. Advanced Research Projects Agency first developed the ARPANET. It took over as the standardized ARPANET protocol in 1981. Today, it is one of two main existing Internet protocols including IPv6, which it still reigns over in most of the organizational sphere. The main features of IPv4 cover easy IP switching, network control, internet firewall, flexibility, reliable security, and large routing.
